Kinabatangan River is the longest river in Sabah flowing 560 km down river to the port of Sandakan. The lower Kinabatangan River is estimated to have the largest concentration of wildlife in all of Sabah including several species of hornbills, elephants, crocodiles, monitor lizards, wild pigs, otters and several species of monkeys including the rare proboscis monkeys.
Day 1: Kinabatangan River
This morning we drive to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to witness some of the activities of the orangutans during their feeding times. Continue by speedboat along Kinabatangan River for 2 hours to Sukau Village. In the late afternoon, we take a boat cruise to search for the Proboscis monkeys and other wildlife. Overnight at Abai Jungle Lodge. (L/D)
Day 2: Kinabatangan River
We wake up early to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. Then we take a boat trip up the Kinabatangan River to an ox-bow lake for a short jungle walk while searching for more wildlife. In the afternoon, we cruise up river to Sukau village and continue wildlife searching along Menangul River. Overnight at Kinabatangan River Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Sandakan
After breakfast, we travel down river to Sandakan. Arrive Sandakan in the early afternoon where we have time for a short city tour. (B/L)
